Ceramics, Glass Art, and Stone TurningThere is a long human experience in creating these art objects. Often such objects are all the artistic and craft evidence left from vanished cultures.

I’ve been a potter for the last 12 years. I have always loved art – all facets – drawing, painting, photography and ceramics. I was an elementary art teacher for 25 years sharing my love of all of these things with children. I returned to school and received a Master’s degree from Roosevelt and the Art Institute of Chicago. At that point I still loved all aspects of my field so I worked on a “dabbler’s masters” a Masters of General Studies in the Visual Arts. It was during that time that I discovered my affinity for clay. After my master’s degree was completed, I continued classes at Lil Street Gallery in Chicago where my passion for clay grew. I studied there for three years while figuring out how to set up a home studio so I could more easily get my fingers in clay. In 2013 I moved my clay studio from the Midwest to beautiful Grass Valley. My focus as I looked for a house was to find one where I could set up a studio where I lived. Most of my work is done on the wheel. I then alter the basic forms and embellish with hand building. I find that my work has become more organic since moving here; influenced by the beautiful natural environment I now live in. I also mix all my own glazes in my studio and am constantly experimenting with new colors, surfaces, and forms. |

I was born, raised and raised my own family in Southern California where outside of my nursing career, I studied various forms of art and design over 14 years. In 2000, I moved to Nevada for a brief period. It was there I found my passion in the designing of fun and functional fused glass art. Relocating back to Santa Rosa, California, I experienced considerable success showing my work in northern California Galleries, Wine venues and Art fairs. I continued to explore new techniques and most love creating designs that celebrate both nature and the human spirit. Retired from specialty nursing career, my husband and I moved to beautiful Nevada City where he subsequently built my studio. It is here, surrounded by the beautiful terrain where I find constant inspiration to development of new styles, and designs. |

I was born in Nevada City and raised in Cedar Ridge. I attended local schools and graduated from Nevada Union Highschool majoring in art. I was one of a group of young artists that painted historical murals in Nevada County; reaching from Penn Valley through Grass Valley, Nevada City, North San Juan,Truckee and Donner Summit. I then went into the restaurant world and finally ended up with a career as a Rural Mail Carrier with the Grass Valley Post Office while raising my family. Through out my life I had kept in touch with my highschool art teacher, Jack Richardson. In 2013, Jack Richardson once again became my teacher and unveiled the secrets of stone turning to me. To my surprise my bowls started selling right away to friends, acquaintances and co-workers. In July of this year I was accepted into my first gallery, Art Works Gallery on Mill Street in Grass Valley. |
