                                Photography

This art of "painting with light" turns a concept or idea into a two dimensional image.   Even though what is depicted in their photographs is "real," the work of these artists reflects their very personal and unique artistic expression..

Photography (and cinema, too) have a power of realism like no other medium.  I love to take that realism, and add a little doubt, perhaps a little fantasy.  We all experience the physical reality around us, and most of us also feel that there's something unseen beyond reality. The unseen beyond may be God, spirits, angels, ghosts, aliens, or Halliburton. My joy is to create images which include a sense of reality along with a glimpse of the dreamworld beyond.  I like to play in that narrow zone which has elements of reality, and then also something beyond our common visual reality. I love to make long exposures in the dark of night. They’re magical because they can produce images which were never available to be seen in real time, as the human eye sees things.
I’ve lived and breathed photography for the last 30+ years, collecting many credentials and volumes of work experience along the way. All that matters now is the experience you have upon viewing my photos. I hope you’re stunned, but only in the nicest way.

I always loved photographs that capture the mood of the moment.  Whether it is freezing a scene of daily life or capturing the light on the beach, my goal is to share the moment.
My interest in photography started in my twenties and quickly evolved into two distinct branches.  Through an interest in costumed portraiture I became enamored of historical photographs that gave me a glimpse into times past.  For 30 years I have been collecting and restoring vintage photographs. I search for images that are historically interesting as well as wonderful photos that are evocative of the times, the oft forgotten treasures that transport you back in time.  I love seeing peoples’ reactions to these views of the past whether they bring back memories or create a newfound interest in our heritage.

I have also sought to capture the mood of my own time.  When I view the world with my camera in hand, I almost feel transported and become involved in details that I would normally be too distracted to see.  I seek to capture those details, moments, moods and if I can give you even a taste of this experience, I have succeeded.

Romance is important in all my photos: it is the connection between what I produce as a photographer and the viewer. Without that, the photo has no intimacy. Equally important is the quality of the light, not just the adequacy of light. I also look to create a painterly quality and a sense of flow. My goal is to incorporate all these elements into my photos regardless if I am shooting a landscape, a portrait, or even one of the many sports and action photos I do for clients. I hope you enjoy my work.
